Haha! Well, if that doesn’t say they’re reading the site intensely, nothing does. 🤣🤣🤣
The gender specification is gone on their job posting.
Updated ‘The Registered Manager’ Page
A short update. I’ve finally rewritten ‘The Registered Manager‘ page, now it stands on it’s own and there’s no overlap between it and my story.
Fixed Mobile Rendering Bug & New Headings Font
Not a massive update today, but I fixed an interesting bug in the rendering of the site when viewed on mobile, for those using accessibility tools to change the font sizes. The panel would fly off the right of the page and be difficult to find again. Whoops.
I also changed the margins/padding on mobile, so there’s more space at the right for people to scroll, not have the accessibility and scroll to top button appear over the top of any content.
I also unified the fonts on all browsers, using Noto Sans (OFL Licensed) as the main font, so now it should look the same on any device, and made the headings use VAG Rundschrift BQ the closest font I could reasonably use (from a licensing perspective), that matches Moorview’s corporate font.
New for Accessibility – Audio Versions!
So, today I spent a whole bunch of time making Text To Speech versions of many of the articles. So far there’s now audio versions of About Me, My Story, My Human Cost, The Advert and The Staff Reviews, with more to follow!
I’m aware there’s a certain amount of lag when loading the player. I know how to fix this, but I haven’t yet implemented it (for the technically curious, it’s called ‘waveform caching’, and I’m going to try and implement that later today).
For pages where it seems relevant to differentiate between voices, I’ve chosen different voices for effect. I hope you enjoy this new feature and find these useful! 💝
Edit: And… done! I’ve fixed the load-in pop, more tightly integrated the player and optimised the filesizes so they don’t burn through data. They should only load metadata without playback, so shouldn’t increase page-load times unnecessarily (but that caused enough of a headache, I didn’t want to throw 2MB of audio at people that might never play it. Sometimes internet is expensive!).
All in all 7.2MB for 35 minutes of audio at a decent enough quality for speech. Opus is really a nice lossy compression format. I’ll get the rest of the pages done at some point 🙂
New Colour Scheme
Today, rather inspired by listening to John Murphy’s excellent soundtrack to 28 Weeks Later (and the track “Walk To Regents Park” in particular) I decided to redo the graphics and colour scheme in a kind of ‘Scorched Earth’ palette of burnt red/brown, and wooden. Almost like the tree figure is burning everything to the ground.
Our First 1000 Unique Visitors
Wow! I was checking the server statistics, and saw the site has gotten over a thousand unique visitors in our first 9 days! This was very nice to see. My message is important. I want to be the best voice I can for those without a voice. Whether it’s the people Moorview support or their underappreciated staff. I will be the transparency that Moorview desperately need, but won’t give. 💜
Side Wide Restructure, Spelling, and Grammar Check
A tiny update to say I’ve gone through all the published articles, checked for spelling and grammar issues, and have reordered the pages. There now should be less frequent updates to any of the pages.
Any pages that have been moved or combined have redirects to their new locations. I also made sure the site’s time-zone was set correctly (for some reason it was set to UTC+0) and set ISO8601 style dates. Now I’m happy with what’s written and ready for what comes next.
Scarborough Cluster Manager
I notice there’s a new job posting on Indeed for Scarborough Cluster Manager. As part of Complaint 3’s response, they told me they were now “Permanently employed in Scarborough”. So this would suggest that Moorview are losing (or have lost) an excellent Cluster Manager.
Wherever you’re going, whatever you’re doing, you will be an absolute asset and their gain! I wish you the best, you were instrumental in what progress I made and you amplified my voice. 💜
